Shadowy figures all around me,
showing me where I should be but not how to get there.
The closer I get the farther they slip away,
how is it that they're never out of sight yet I can never predict their direction?
...It's dark hidden cant see where my feet should go.
As I press my feet against the ground, I wonder if I could stay still forever.
I wonder, if I empty myself here
If I allow my skin to calcify,
If I will my shell to serve as armor for the next one who becomes raw from the shadows constantly running through their fingers
Perhaps my dead skin might be able to preserve something living
Surely existing on the precipice of being and nothingness would be better than succumbing and becoming another shadow.
This calcification is not a metamorphosis
This callus I've grown has hardened, thicker than bone it cannot be dissolved through hopeful fingers without honest will.
When the sun rises it's so bright that it blinds me. My eyes weren't made for this onslaught of light but the same prickle that burns gives me hope, futile yet pleasurable hope, if only for the feeling of something reminding me I'm alive.
